Beliefs

Shalom Community Church comes from the Believers Church tradition.  This historical faith tradition is sometimes
called Anabaptist.  This dates from the Reformation where the
early believers who had been baptized as babies,  were
baptized again as adults, believing that
one must be able to understand the meaning of faith to become a Christian.
Shalom
Community Church is a member of two Anabaptist denominations, The Mennonite Church USA and
The Church of the Brethren .

Shalom Community Church tries to be true to the historical Anabaptist beliefs in a Christian context.  Thus our
unofficial motto is, “We areAnabaptist Christians building a community of
faith in our place and time”. Our
Congregational Covenant
lays out who we seek to be in our
beliefs and lives.

The belief that Christians are called to be peacemakers has been a longstanding core tenant of both denominations.
On Earth Peace
and
Mennonite Central Committee both have been active in peacemaking activities and the
promotion of justice to the world.
They are also active in Christian Peacemaker Teams , an international ministry of
solidarity
in troubled areas of the globe.

To further explore either Mennonite or Church of the Brethren beliefs we encourage you to explore some additional links.  Third Way Cafe  is a site that explores who and what Mennonites aspire to be.  Church of the Brethren Network  and  Mennonite Connections  will link you to many official and unofficial websites that can give you a broad overview of the denominations we relate to. For chat sites on simple living and other related topics,  Mennolink is a good starting site.
