you next year
The Nurture Committee is interested in the important happenings in your life as they are also important to our Shalom community. Please let us know of graduations, weddings, births, deaths or major illnesses in your family.

During the next month, the Finance Committee will be consulting with the congregation’s committees and our pastor to prepare our 2010 budget. Families and individuals are requested to discern their financial contribution commitment to SCC for the 2010 budget year. Each committee with a line item in the budget is also asked to review its 2009budget allocation and request any adjustments for consideration by the Finance Committee. Please notify Hollis Showalter (Finance Committee chair), Anita Toews (co-Treasurer) or Mike Carbary (co-Treasurer) of your commitment. Committees should make requests to Hollis.
As of October 1, the Kaufman family will be in need of food. Nofzigers are up and running and so we can start to help our next baby family. Let me know when you are available so I can coordinate the efforts. Thanks, Betsy Harvey

CROP Hunger Walk, Sunday, Oct. 18th at 2pm –Quite
a
few of you have committed to walking and raising money for hungry folks
in
various parts of the world. It should make for a nice group walk.
Registration begins at 1p.m. on the 18th at the
IHN/ALPHA House. At our coordinators meeting last night, Julie Steiner (Director of Alpha House/IHN for Wash. Co.) spoke about the probable funding decreases from the county for this next fiscal year. They are looking at possible 20% cuts for this coming year, and an additional 20% the next year. The community has been very vocal to the commissioners, asking that the funding cuts to human services be minimized as much as possible.
IHN/Alpha House's
biggest private fundraiser of the year is Gimme Shelter, scheduled for
Saturday, October 17th. Tickets are $45 in advance, $50 at the
door,
children 6 and under free. It's a nice dinner, entertainment, and
silent
auction held at
Our next host week
for IHN Alpha House is November 9-15

Each year we collect goodies, or money to buy goodies for our college students to make up care packages for them to get before their final exams. These packages have gotten nothing but rave reviews and many many thank yous. Betsy Harvey will be collecting money or goodies until November 15. She will also need 7 boxes the size xerox paper comes in. The current students are: Ben H., Claire L., Noah W., Miriam W., Caleb MP.,John S., Elizabeth G., Zack S. and Paul V. If anyone has been missed, please let her know--or by email.
Now is the time to sign up for rotating potlucks which will occur on Jan.16, Feb.20 and March 20. Sign up to be a host and or participant by calling or emailing Betsy Harvey. For those of you who do not know what rotating potlucks are, they are small potlucks that take place at people's houses and include anywhere from 6-10 or so people. They occur in Jan., Feb., and March. Each month if you participate, you get to eat with a different group of people. If you host, you host once. These potlucks are an excellent way to get to know new people-- whether you have been around a long time or are new yourself. You can participate in one or all of the months. The host family decides on the menu and then assigns food to each of the guests. These are always total family affairs too. Most everyone in the church participates and many good times are had. Betsy Harvey is in the process of compiling the lists of folks who want to participate and host and would appreciate you emailing or calling her and letting her know if you want to join the fun. Add these dates to your calendar now, and please respond whether you have participated before or not. .
God alone is enough, St Teresa Avila 1515
Let
nothing upset you,
let nothing startle you.
All things pass;
God does not change.
Patience wins
all it seeks.
Whoever has God
lacks nothing:
God alone is enough.
The tree of love its
roots hath spread
Deep in my heart, and rears its head;
Rich are its fruits: they joy dispense;
Transport the heart, and ravish sense.
In love's sweet swoon to thee I cleave,
Bless'd source of love . .
