Section I                Welcome and Introduction to Safe Sanctuary

¨       Call to worship:  For all of us it is important to know that we are loved, that people care for us and stand up for us.  We need food to eat and safe places to sleep and work and play.  For all of us, it is good to have places where we feel comfortable and safe, people we enjoy being with and friends and family who love us.  Where are the places you feel safe and the people you enjoy being with, people and places that are good and safe?

INTERFAITH ROUND TABLE  Round Table Dinners:  Share a meal in a home with people from a variety of religious traditions (possibly Jewish, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Baha’i, Unitarian Universalist, Quaker, Unity or Interfaith).  A simple meal becomes a vehicle to tell our stories, laugh, ask questions and see generosity in action. What a good way to deepen our understanding of people from different faith backgrounds.  Sign up for a seat at the table.  Flyers with details can be picked up where literature is handed out or call 734-424-1535 / email gbrides@umich.edu.  Paul and Joy V are planning to host an Interfaith Dinner in their home on the weekend of Feb 28th.

UMS tickets on sale for “Sweet Honey In The Rock,” Thursday, Feb. 12th and “The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma,” Friday, Mar. 13th, Saturday, Mar. 14th.  More ticket information and prices at 734-424-1535 or www.irtwc.org

New online calendar!  Go to our church website and see the new Happenings page
(http://shalomcommunitychurch.mi.us.mennonite.net/Happenings.html).  To add calendar events you will need to set up an account with your e-mail  address.  It's very straightforward.  Just let Kevin know and he will have an invitation sent to your e-mail address.  We also have a new Google Group!  The link is below the calendar.  The Google Group is great for posting items of interest that you wouldn't necessarily send to everyone at shalomcc.  It's also a place where you can start up a discussion on anything you like.

Anita T reports that Shalom received more money in contributions in 2008 than we spent.  We received $116,462.87 in income for the General Budget fund.  This leaves us with a surplus of about $1,300 for the year.  Thank you for giving during a difficult economic year.  Many of you gave an extra gift at the end of the year and that helped us to meet the budget.

Next week Sunday John Powell will be speaking on the tears of Ophra, Jesse Jackson and John Lewis.  The following week will be a contemplative service that will include Communion lead by Paul V

Persons going to Cameron are asked to meet briefly following the meeting today.

Sanctuary

Lord, prepare me to be a sanctuary
Pure and holy, tried and true
With thanksgiving, I'll be a living
Sanctuary for You

THE BUTTERFLY SONG, Words and Music by Brian M. Howard

If I were a butterfly
I'd thank you Lord for giving me wings
If I were a robin in a tree
I'd thank you Lord that I could sing
If I were a fish in the sea
I'd wiggle my tail and I'd giggle with glee
But I just thank you Father for making me, me

CHORUS               For you gave me a heart and you gave me a smile
You gave me Jesus and you made me your child
And I just thank you Father for making me, me

If I were an elephant
I'd thank you Lord by raising my trunk
If I were a kangaroo
You know I'd hop right up to you
If I were an octopus
I'd thank you Lord for my fine looks
But I just thank you Father for making me, me

If I were a wiggly worm
I'd thank you Lord that I could squirm
If I were a fuzzy, wuzzy bear
I'd thank you Lord for my fuzzy, wuzzy hair
If I were a crocodile
I'd thank you Lord for my great smile
But I just thank you Father for
making me, me

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

Every time I feel the spirit

Movin’ in my heart I will pray

Up on the mountains my Lord spoke

Out of His mouth came fire and smoke

Looked all around me, it looked so fine

I asked the Lord could it be mine

The Jordan river is chilly and cold.
It chills the body but not the soul.
There aint but one train upon this track.
It runs to heaven and then right back.

Oh, I have sorrow and I have woe

            I have heartaches here below

But while God leads me I’ll never fear

For I know that He is near

He’s got the whole world

He's got the whole world in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
He's got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got the sun and the rain in His hands,
He's got the moon and the stars in His hands,
He's got the wind and the clouds in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got the rivers and the mountains in His hands,
He's got the oceans and the seas in His hands,
He's got you and he's got me in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got everybody here in His hands,
He's got everybody there in His hands,
He's got everybody everywhere in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.
