Call to Worship:

Leader:   We glorify you, God for all there is to enjoy:
The beauty of the lake and sand,
The warmth of the summer sun,

A breeze and a cool evening,
The gathering of old friends,

Conversation, dancing, laughter, competition, shared meals.

People:   Glory, glory, hallelujah, since I laid my burdens down.

Leader:   We glorify you, God, for the goodness of life:
The pleasure of remembering the past together,,
The anxiety and excitement of new journeys,
Books, music, films, painting, gardens, flowers, pets,

People:   Glory, glory, hallelujah, since I laid my burdens down.

Leader:   We glorify you God, for abundant gifts:

To gather with children and grandchildren,
For shared wisdom and stories,
For moments of sheer joy and pleasure,
For hope to heal and mend and new beginnings,

For justice and righteousness and the promise of your presence.

People:   Glory, glory, hallelujah, since I laid my burdens down.

SCHOOL KITS.  It is time to start collecting items for school kits for Mennonite Central Committee.  We (Service and Outreach Committee) will be collecting items until September 20.  You may donate whole kits or select items.  The requested items are:   Contents (NEW items only) , 4 spiral or perforated notebooks (about 21.5cm x 27cm / 8.5" x 10.5" and 70 sheets U.S. / 140 pages in Canada, 4 unsharpened pencils, 1 ruler (flat, flexible plastic; indicating both 30cm and 12") , 12 colored pencils (in packaging) , 1 large pencil eraser.

SUNDAY SCHOOL.  Plans are underway for children's Sunday School.  A community like ours presents some challenges and a lot of wonderful opportunities for both our young people and the adults who work with them.  At this time we want to know if you want a part in educating and supporting our children in their faith journey.  Flexibility is the word in our planning.  We are flexible about time commitment, skill and experience level and the amount of planning you want or can take on.  There will be an adapted curriculum. Patti Sprunger is the one to contact regarding your interest;.

Nearer my God to Thee

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee.
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness be over me, my rest a stone.
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God to Thee.  [Refrain]

There let the way appear, steps unto Heav’n;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee.

Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee.

Or, if on joyful wing cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I’ll fly,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee.

There in my Father’s home, safe and at rest,
There in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest;
Age after age to be,
Nearer my God to Thee.

'Glory Glory Hallelujah      (African-American Traditional)

Glory, glory, hallelujah,
since I laid my burden down.
Glory, glory, hallelujah,
since I laid my burden down.

Friends don't treat me like they used to
since I laid my burden down.
Friends don't treat me like they used to
since I laid my burden down.

I feel better, so much better
since I laid my burden down.
I feel better, so much better
since I laid my burden down.

Feel like shouting, "hallelujah",
since I laid my burden down.
Feel like shouting, "hallelujah",
since I laid my burden down.

I am climbing Jacob's ladder
since I laid my burden down.
I am climbing Jacob's ladder
since I laid my burden down.

Every round goes higher and higher
since I laid my burden down.
Every round goes higher and higher
since I laid my burden down.
